Tooth Whitening Gel
Two active ingredients dominate the consumer teeth-whitening gel market in Europe. One has been around for decades. The other is newer, better tolerated, and is starting to seriously outpace it. Here’s what really sets them apart.
0.1% hydrogen peroxide: the traditional active ingredient
Hydrogen peroxide has been the gold standard for teeth whitening for years. It works through oxidation: its molecules penetrate the enamel and break down the colored pigments embedded in the tooth structure.
In France, European regulations set the limit at 0.1% hydrogen peroxide for over-the-counter products. Above this limit, only dentists are authorized to use the product. This limit is not arbitrary: higher concentrations cause pulp irritation and gum burns. The 6%, 16%, or 22% gels found on certain marketplaces are illegal to sell in Europe. This is not an opinion; it is the law.
Our 0.1% HP gel, manufactured in the United States to strict quality standards, remains our best-known product. For many first-time buyers, this is the product they’re looking for. It’s effective. It’s compliant.
PAP+: peroxide-free, sensitivity-free
PAP (phthalimidoperoxycaproic acid) is the next-generation active ingredient. It directly oxidizes the pigmented molecules on the enamel surface without penetrating the dentin. Result: no thermal effect on the pulp, no induced sensitivity.
This is precisely why it is suitable for people who have experienced pain with peroxide products, or who have naturally sensitive teeth.
Its main technical challenge: it degrades rapidly if the formulation or packaging is not properly controlled. A poorly stabilized PAP gel no longer contains any active ingredient by the time you open it. We’ve tested this on competing products. That’s why it took us three years and two complete formulations to develop a PAP+ gel whose stability is verified by laboratory analysis before each batch.
Our PAP+ gel is manufactured in France, using an exclusive formula developed in collaboration with our partner laboratories. The micro-hydroxyapatite we incorporate does not whiten: it remineralizes the enamel and reduces sensitivity during and after treatment.
Two gels, two user profiles
The 0.1% HP gel is suitable for users already familiar with peroxide whitening, without any particular sensitivity issues, who are looking for a proven product.
The PAP+ gel is designed for those who want to avoid peroxide, who have a history of sensitivity, or who simply want the most technically advanced product available to the general public.
In both cases: extrinsic stains—those caused by coffee, tea, wine, or tobacco—are the target. Intrinsic stains, linked to the tooth’s structure itself, require in-office treatment at a dental clinic. No over-the-counter gel can change that, and we do not claim otherwise.
