Professional teeth whitening lamp

There are dozens of lamps on the market. Most of them are similar. A few really make a difference. Here’s how to tell them apart, based on years of experience equipping beauty salons.

How does a teeth-whitening lamp actually work?

The lamp doesn’t whiten teeth. This distinction matters.

It activates. It accelerates the photochemical reaction between the light and the gel applied to the teeth. Without active gel, an LED lamp does nothing measurable. What this means in practice: the quality of the gel and that of the lamp are inseparable.

The effective wavelength for PAP is around 450 nm (visible blue). For peroxide gels, the effective range is broader. A lamp that does not specify its wavelength should raise a red flag.

The technical criteria that affect results in the dental office

Wavelength

This is the first criterion, the one that general distributors almost always omit. A “blue” LED lamp means nothing without the specific number. Our WHITECARE lamps are specified at 450 nm.

Power in mW/cm²

This is the actual intensity delivered to the tooth surface. Not the input power. Not the diode output power. The irradiance density on the enamel. This figure is rarely disclosed because it is often disappointing.

Coverage

A lamp that only partially illuminates the dental arch produces uneven results. Professionals who discover our lamps first notice this uniform coverage, including on the molars.

LED lifespan

Entry-level lamps lose up to 40% of their efficiency in less than 6 months of intensive use. The frequency of replacement becomes a significant hidden cost for a dental practice.

What a dental practice should look for

2 practical questions that immediately distinguish serious offers from the rest.

  • Does the supplier specify both the wavelength AND the irradiance density?
  • Is there genuine after-sales technical support, or just a contact form?

The second point is more important than it seems. Clinics that encounter a hardware issue during a session cannot wait 10 days for a standard replacement.

Our WHITECARE Professional Lamps

Each WHITECARE lamp comes with comprehensive technical documentation. Wavelength, power, LED lifespan: everything is clearly specified.
